Sky-Watcher EQ5 PRO 8″ SCT Telescope Monster Aperture with GO-TO Mount SW8SCT-EQ5P/SYN

Item No. 113-11600
Manuf. No. Sky-Watcher SW8SCT-EQ5P/SYN

Crave large aperture? The reflector design reins supreme as the king of large aperture. The most popular reflector design configurations are the classic Newtonian and the SCT. The SCT is an exotic form of reflector using mirrors and a lens, sometimes called a mirror-lens, or catadioptric. If you can imagine for a moment the classical Newtonian reflector as the full-size SUV of astronomical optical systems, then the SCT would be its more petite, luxury SUV cousin. The SCT is more challenging to fabricate, thus more expensive, but it has several advantages that off set the extra cost in the minds of a significant number of amateur astronomers. The primary advantage is compact size compared to Newtonian reflectors and refractors. It takes up less space and is easier to handle and transport. It is also known for excellent optical quality. The SW 8″ SCT will provide razor sharp, high resolution images suitable for passionate lifelong engagement in sky exploration. The amateur astronomer also benefits from computerized object location and tracking of over 30,000 astronomical objects. All things considered, the SW 8″ SCT EQ5 PRO will strike the perfect balance for many amateur astronomers between cost, aperture, and ease of use.

A Coma Correcter for a Celestron C 11 Schmidt Cassegrain Telestron

by @ 11:41 am. Filed under Telescope Accessories, FAQ

Qestion:

Would you have  a coma correcter for  a celestron  c 11  schmidt cassegrain telestron

From martin williams

Answer:

Martin,

There is no such lens available.  There is a focal reducer/field flattener lens available that reduces the speed to f/6.3 and flattens the inherently curved field.  But there is no coma corrector for SCT scopes on the market, to my knowledge.

However, if you are shooting at f/10, full-field, the primary distortion at field edge is not coma but
field curvature, and the FR/FF solves that.

iOptron Mini-Tower Altazimuth Telescope Mount with GPS & Go-To

by @ 11:04 am. Filed under Telescope Accessories

Item No. 644-20050
Manuf. No. iOptron 8300

The MiniTower is the perfect combination of capacity and portability. The iOptron MiniTower is an altazimuth telescope mount with GPS and computer Go-To technology. The rated instrument capacity of 25 pounds is sufficient to handle Schmidt-Cassegrains of up to eight inches as well as most 80 and 100mm class refractors.

The iOptron MiniTower is extremely portable, with all the standard components(excluding the tripod) packaged in an alloy metal case. The MiniTower can easily be carried around in a car trunk or as an airline luggage. The whole system takes only 10 minutes to assemble, but we found it possible to stow the mount in a small car trunk (Honda Civic) fully assembled. This unlimited portability, combined with the internal GPS, provide amateur astronomers extreme flexibility in selecting an observing location.
